Nike Sneakeasy:Vapormax Edition

STYLE MATTERS. - Tinker Hatfield

Last night was one of many in Nike's Sneakeasy series celebrating Air Max and it's amazing legacy. The shoe of the night was the new Air Vapormax, a brand new piece of technology in the Air family.

The discussion started with a video message from none other than Tinker Hatfield himself, who spoke to what it means to design a great shoe in the here and now, what it takes. As he faded off the sneaker coated screen, Vice President of Innovation Kathy Gomez and Vice President/Creative Director of Running Footwear, Andres Harlow came out to join the crowd. The discussion covered the design process from the science perspective (the air is situated to hit all the points needed to make a better experience for the athlete) and the design side (the color, Pure Platinum, invokes the feeling of clouds and air itself).

The shoes themselves have been tested again and again and if there were no other takeaways (there were plenty), the most major one was to try, fail, and try again. Gomez completely opened up that Nike celebrates their failures and tackles innovation by considering how they can do what they thought they weren't able to before. Inspiration game strong.

We got a close up look at all the drops that are happening during Air Max Month. Our favorites are definitely the Vapormax (will retail for about $190) and the Air Max 1 Atmos (currently only in men's, eye roll). Check out photos from the event below and get ready for Air Max Day, 3/26.
